A scientific notation calculator converts numbers into a coefficient from 1 up to 10 multiplied by a power of ten. It can also convert E notation and calculate with scientific values.
Move the decimal point until one nonzero digit remains on its left. The number of places moved becomes the exponent of 10, with a negative exponent for numbers smaller than 1.
E notation is a compact typed form of scientific notation. For example, 3.2e5 means 3.2 multiplied by 10 to the fifth power.
Multiply the coefficients, add the exponents, and normalize the coefficient so it is at least 1 and less than 10.
First rewrite both numbers with the same power of ten. Then add the coefficients and normalize the result if needed.
